Proclamation: National Travel and Tourism Week BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS LEWIS COUNTY,WASHINGTON PROCLAMATION NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK MAY 6-12, 2018 WHEREAS, travel has a positive economic effect on the nation and Lewis County; and WHEREAS, travel to and within the United States provides significant economic benefits for the nation, our state, and our county, generating more than $2.4 trillion in economic output in 2017, with $1.036 billion spent directly by travelers in the United States and $192.4 million in Lewis County; and WHEREAS, meetings, events and incentive travel are core business functions that help companies strengthen business performance, educate employees and customers as well as reward business accomplishments—which in turn boosts the U.S. economy. In 2017, domestic and international business travelers spent$317 billion; and WHEREAS, travelers' spending directly generated tax revenues of$112.3 billion for federal, state and local government funds used to support essential services and programs in 2017; and WHEREAS, Lewis County is centrally located halfway between Seattle and Portland along the 1-5 corridor offering visitor access to mountains, rivers, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, and agri-tourism; and WHEREAS, measuring nearly 100 miles from east to west and just over 30 miles from north to south, Lewis County's landscapes fall into four distinct regions each carrying their own distinct personality, calling to be discovered, visited and enjoyed; and WHEREAS, Lewis County government is an advocate for promoting tourism throughout the entire county and has developed a tourism-promotional website entitled DiscoverLewisCounty.com in a strategic effort to collaborate with other tourism and economic development drivers to promote our beautiful county. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners hereby proclaims May 6-12, 2018, as National Travel and Tourism Week in Lewis County and urges community leaders throughout our beautiful county to join us in this special observance.
