OF LEWIS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
PROCLAMATION
Declaring September 2018 as National Recovery Month
WHEREAS, behavioral health is an essential part of health and one's overall wellness;
AND
WHEREAS, prevention of mental and/or substance use disorders works, treatment is
effective, and people recover in our area and around the Nation; AND
WHEREAS, preventing and overcoming mental and/or substance abuse disorder is
essential to achieving healthy lifestyles, both physically and emotionally; AND
WHEREAS, we must encourage relatives and friends of people with mental and/or
substance use disorders to implement preventive measures, recognize the signs of a problem,
and guide those in need to appropriate treatment and recovery support services; AND
WHEREAS, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we
celebrate health improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as
hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. The observance reinforces the positive message
that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and
people can and do recover; AND
WHEREAS, to help more people achieve and sustain long-term recovery, the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Lewis County Public
Health and Social Services invite all residents to participate in National Recovery Month; and this
year's national theme: Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County
Commissioners does hereby proclaim the month of September 2018 as
NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH
in Lewis County to increase public awareness of behavioral health recovery.
