Proclamation: Public Power Week PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 7-13, 2018, AS
PUBLIC POWER WEEK
L E W I S C O U N T Y B O A R D O F COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS,the citizens of Lewis County place a high value on local control )000,
over community services and,therefore,have chosen to operate a
community-owned,locally controlled,not-for-profit electric utility that gives
its consumers and owners a direct say in utility operations and policies;and
WHEREAS,the Public Utility District No. 1 of Lewis County(PUD)provides
reliable,efficient,and cost-effective electricity for our homes,businesses,
and farms,as well as our social service and governmental agencies;and
WHEREAS,the PUD employs sound business practices designed to ensure the best possible service at
not-for-profit rates while also contributing to the well-being of local citizens through energy efficiency,
customer service,environmental protection,economic development,and safety awareness;and
WHEREAS,the PUD is a dependable and trustworthy institution that provides many consumer protections and
continues to make our community a better place in which to live and work, while also contributing to the
protection of the global environment;and
WHEREAS,the PUD continues to bring lower-cost,safe,reliable electricity to Lewis County homes and businesses
—just as it has since 1936,the year during which the utility was created to serve the citizens of Lewis County,with
the exception of the City of Centralia;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners designates the week of
October 7-13,2018,as Public Power Week to honor the PUD for its contributions to the community and to make
its consumer-owners,policy makers,and employees more aware of its contributions to their well-being;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that our community joins hands with more than 2,000 other public power systems in
the United States in this celebration of public power and recognition that the PUD is good for consumers,
business,the community,and the nation.
