WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) concur with the decision of
the Lewis County Fire Marshal, and the Lewis County Fire Chief's Association, that weather
conditions have improved to allow open burning by permit on all land regulated by Lewis County
effective October 8, 2018; and
WHEREAS, this modification and upgrade allows all open burning by permit effective
October 8, 2018, at 12:01 a.m. on all lands regulated by Lewis County; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the BOCC hereby modifies Resolution #18-286 to
allow open burning by permit on all lands regulated by Lewis County, effective at 12:01 a.m.
October 8, 2018, until rescinded by like resolution of the BOCC.

Lewis County Lifts Restrictions on Outdoor Burning
Effective 12:01 A.M., October 8, 2018, Lewis County Board of County Commissioners
and Lewis County Fire Marshal will lift the current burn restrictions on outdoor
burning for all lands regulated by Lewis County, Washington.
After careful review of the current and extended weather forecast,the Lewis County
Fire Marshal has determined that current weather conditions within Lewis County
have improved and will lift the restriction to allow outdoor burning, subject to an
open burning application and permit.
Lewis County Fire Marshal works closely with local fire districts and local fire
departments and strongly urges all county residents and property owners to be
attentive to the condition of their properties through proactive fire prevention
measures, such as the presence of fire-extinguishing equipment and attendance to
supervise the fire until the fire has been extinguished.
Remember, outdoor burning is restricted to only natural vegetation from the burn
site. The burning of garbage,paper or other refuse is strictly prohibited at all
times. To obtain an Open Burning Application and Permit,you may apply on-line at
https://burnpermit.lewiscountywa.gov/ or in person at the Lewis County Fire
Marshal's office.
Please refer to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for
restrictions applying to outdoor burning conducted on DNR-protected forestlands
throughout Washington, which includes state parks. You may obtain the
information at www.dnr.wa.gov/burn-restrictions.
The burn status will remain in effect until modified or rescinded by the Board of
County Commissioners. A public announcement of any modifications will be
released at that time.

Description
The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is in concurrence with the decision of the Director of Lewis
County Community Development and the Fire Marshal regarding the modification of burn restrictions on all
lands regulated by Lewis County.
Modification of Resolution 18-286 is recommended by the Fire Marshal. This determination is based on the
judgement of the Fire Marshal, as well as a review of fire-hazard conditions, current and anticipated weather
conditions and moisture readings.
This recommendation is to allow all open burning by permit effective 12:01 am on October 8, 2018.
The burn status will remain in effect until modified or rescinded by the Board of County Commissioners. A
public announcement of any modifications will be released at that time.
