2019-02-19 Update with County Manager - Wrap-UpUpdate with County Manager / Wrap-Up Meeting February 19, 2019 1:20 p.m. Present: Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Fund, County Manager Erik Martin, Commissioner Stamper (1:21 p.m.) Guests: Dr. Lindsey Pollock, Linda Williams, Alex Brown Recorder: Rieva Lester Erik Martin gave a recap on the winter storm. He praised the efforts of personnel from the county and elsewhere. Commissioner Stamper joined at 1:21 p.m. Erik said the county had 10 or 11 trucks on the east end and that WSDOT had crews there as well. He said the Sheriff’s Office performed several welfare checks during the storm. Commissioner Stamper suggested drafting a letter of appreciation for the area PUDs (including Lewis, Grays Harbor and Cowlitz), fire departments and WSDOT. The commissioners signed the certificate of appointment for Dennis Day’s appointment to Fire District 17. The group discussed the six remaining unpaid permits for area food establishments. The commissioners said they would support appointing Katie Gift to the vacant Fair Advisory Commission and Dean Croshaw to the remaining vacant Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) position. Erik said the Treasurer would like to explore the purchase of laptops for his office. Erik said he met with Lee Napier, Fred Evander, Brianna Teitzel and Josh Metcalf the previous week to discuss airport obstruction zones. He said it’s possible the two individuals building homes affected by the Packwood airport obstruction zone may be able to use existing county code or an FAA variance to proceed. He said the county also may be looking at revising county code to find a solution that works for everybody: the FAA, the county and builders. Commissioner Fund outlined items WSAC’s Legislative Steering Committee is reviewing. At 2 p.m., Commissioner Jackson announced that the BOCC was recessing until 2:45 p.m. At 2:54 p.m., the meeting resumed with Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper, Rieva Lester, Lara McRea and Linda Williams in attendance. Commissioner Stamper said he was uncertain whether he would attend the Nisqually meeting. Commissioner Fund said she would call in for ESC. Commissioner Jackson said he will attend the eDiscovery meeting the following day. Commissioner Stamper said he would attend the Feb. 22 Canvassing Board meeting in Commissioner Stamper’s place. Commissioner Jackson left at 3:06 p.m. The group continued to discuss calendars. Meeting ended at 3:16 p.m.
