2019-02-27 Meeting to discuss weed assessmentMeeting to discuss weed assessment February 27, 2019 10:02 a.m. Present: Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Fund, Bill Wamsley, Becky Butler, Commissioner Stamper (10:07 a.m.), County Manager Erik Martin (10:07 a.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Bill Wamsley discussed Kittitas County’s lawsuit regarding state-owned lands, which are tax exempt. Bill discussed tracking calls regarding noxious weeds. He discussed outreach. Commissioner Stamper and Erik Martin joined at 10:07 a.m. Commissioner Stamper asked if the county can subsidize treatment for low-income landowners. Bill said the Weed Board has discussed cost-share assistance. He said years ago, the Weed Board was able to provide partial reimbursement for herbicide purchases. Erik left at 10:20 a.m. Bill discussed current outreach and mitigation efforts. Becky Butler noted that the board previously approved a full-time FTE with benefits. Commissioner Fund left at 10:32 a.m. The group discussed the legality of providing weed assistance for low-income landowners. They also discussed the possibility of having a small works roster for providing treatment services. Bill said he would follow up with the commissioners during his next regular update, which is scheduled for May 21. Meeting ended at 10:43 a.m.
