2019-08-20 Meeting with WSU and WeedMeeting with WSU and Weed August 20, 2019 10:30 a.m. Present: Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Fund, Bill Wamsley, Gary Fredricks, Patrick Shults, Commissioner Stamper (10:38 a.m.) Recorders: Rieva Lester and Bill Wamsley Bill Wamsley said two new weeds have been found locally: common reed grass and purple loosestrife. Bill said applications for the stewardship program will soon be sent out. Bill said the group will focus on high-priority weeds, such as common reed grass and purple loosestrife, among others. Commissioner Stamper joined at 10:38 a.m. Bill discussed the Play Clean Go effort, which encourages outdoors enthusiasts to:  Remove plants, animals and mud from boots, gear, pets and vehicles.  Clean gear before entering and leaving recreation sites.  Stay on designated roads and trails.  Use certified or local firewood and hay. Bill said there are plans to treat weeds inside the fenced area at the East County airport. He said he’s also fielded complaints about noxious weeds at the fairgrounds. Bill left at 10:41 a.m. Gary Fredricks said he’s creating a brown bag recurring meeting that will address things like how to make a will, how to save money through couponing, what to do in response to a home invasion, etc. Patrick Shults discussed the work he has been doing in Lewis County, including a forest stewardship workshop, a “Ties to the Land” estate-planning class and fire adaptation education. Commissioner Jackson left at 10:50 a.m. Patrick discussed the need for forest management. The commissioners discussed the previous day’s biorefinery resolution and DNR meeting. Meeting ended at 11:03 a.m.
