2019-09-23 Coroner UpdateCoroner Update September 23, 2019 3:31 p.m. Present: Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Fund, County Manager Erik Martin, Warren McLeod, Casey Mauermann, Becky Butler Recorder: Rieva Lester Warren McLeod gave the following year-to-date statistics: 602 deaths, four homicides, 13 suicides, 20 accidental deaths, five undetermined deaths and six pending deaths. Warren said the Coroner’s Office has received two grants: One for $4,245 for equipment and another for $2,000 for safe sleeping. Opioid lawsuit: Warren said the Coroner’s Office is paying for 16 hours weekly of work to respond to a recent records request. He estimated the monthly cost at around $900 per month. Becky Butler noted that the Coroner’s Office was supposed to provide additional information before adding additional staff to respond to the request. Casey Mauermann said the Coroner’s Office is working on the 2018 installment regarding opioid cases. She said the county has released the 2019 installment. Erik Martin left at 3:45 p.m. The commissioners asked Casey to coordinate with the Coroner’s Office to determine an appropriate amount of time to devote to the records request. Warren said he will limit the time devoted to records research to four hours per week. Meeting adjourned at 3:48 p.m.
