2018-02-05 Update with EDCUpdate with Economic Development Council (EDC) February 5, 2018 1 p.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper, Matt Matayoshi Guest: Susan DeLaire Recorder: Rieva Lester The group discussed the upcoming EDC banquet, planned for Thursday, Feb. 8. Matt Matayoshi discussed plans for a Shark Tank-style event in the future. He said two sponsors have been identified. Matt said the EDC contract is up for renewal in April. He said the EDC would like to request a $20,000 increase to $160,000. Matt gave an overview of projects the EDC has worked on, including streetscape rendering for Packwood and Toledo, water rights for Winlock, sewer plans for Packwood, asking Sen. Braun to secure $1.5 million in funding for the Benaroya project in Winlock and recruiting for IPAT. Matt said a new company will be moving into the old Thurman’s building. Matt said Medline chose to locate in Lacey instead of Centralia. The group discussed the rules surrounding .09 funding. Matt discussed performing another study focusing on sewer needs for Packwood businesses and hotels along Highway 12. Matt said trucking, transportation and warehouse sites are trending locally. Matt said he, Erik Martin, Centralia and IPAT met with legislators the previous week. Commissioner Fund said Kittatas County is fighting the state’s stance on marijuana approval.
