2018-02-12 Update with BOEUpdate with BOE February 12, 2018 2:32 p.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Stamper, Candy Hallom Recorder: Rieva Lester Commissioner Jackson clarified that the BOE serves as a sort of checks and balances regarding values. Candy said she doesn’t feel comfortable answering questions in front of the recorder, Rieva Lester. Commissioner Stamper asked if Jonathan Meyer should be asked to weigh in regarding the BOE. Candy said the BOE met with Jonathan at the end of the year to address what Dianne Dorey had identified as concerns. Candy said she has 75 to 80 files for which she needs to contact the petitioners. She said the DOR indicated she should hold off on scanning in petitions and assigning numbers on a batch of petitions until the DOR had a chance to send to her a letter they were drafting. She said the letter did not arrive. Commissioner Jackson asked if it would help to have the Assessor’s Office and the BOE meet. Commissioner Stamper suggested meeting with Jonathan. Candy said there is no RCW that dictates the BOE must respond to the Motion for Clarification forms the Assessor’s Office submits. The group discussed setting up a work email for the BOE chair so emails could go directly to the chair. Commissioner Fund discussed setting up a meeting with the Assessor’s Office and its counsel as well as the BOE chair and the BOE’s counsel. Candy said the BOE members receive $75 per day plus mileage. She said she would like to remove the mileage portion and just increase the daily total. She said she also would like to set up a half-day payment schedule. She said she would check with the Auditor’s Office about the feasibility of making the change. Meeting ended at 3:09 p.m. TO-DO LIST / RECAP Rieva: Set up meeting with the entire BOE board, Candy, the BOE’s counsel, the Assessor’s Office and the Assessor’s Office counsel
