Phone 360-740-1278, 360-740-1164 Elections Department Fax: 360-740-1421 351 NW North St Email heather boyer @lewiscountywa gov PO Box 29 Website http I/elections lewiscountywa gov Chehalis, WA 98532 BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS LEWIS COUNTY, WASHINGTON IN THE MA TTER OF: RESOLUTION NO 19-325 CALLING FOR SPECIAL ELECTION ANNEXING THE CITY OF MORTON'S FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES TO LEWIS COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT #4 PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 52 04 RCW WHEREAS; the growth of the City of Morton and Lewis County Fire District #4 is creating greater demand for fire and emergency services, and WHEREAS, fire and emergency services are critical services necessary for the public health and safety of the citizens of the City of Morton, and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Morton to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in providing fire and emergency medical services to its residents, and WHEREAS, RCW 52 04 061 authorizes a city to initiate the annexation process by adopting an ordinance stating an intent to annex to the fire protection district; and WHEREAS, the City of Morton has adopted an ordinance stating an intent to annex fire and emergency services to Lewis County Fire District #4 fire protection district; and WHEREAS, RCW 52 04 071 authorizes a county legislative authority to call a special election to be held in the city and in the fire protection district. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Board of County Commissioners calls special election to be held on February 13, 2020 in both the City of Morton and Lewis County Fire District #4 on the question of whether the City of Morton's fire and emergency services should be annexed into Lewis County Fire District #4 The ballot proposal, while allowing for conformity to ballots administered by the Lewis County Auditor's Office, shall be as follows Shall the City of Morton be annexed to and be a part of Lewis County Fire District #4 fire protection district?
