2018-03-26 Meeting to discuss interpretive panelsMeeting to discuss interpretive panels March 26, 2018 11:22 a.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper, Mary Kay Nelson, Commissioner Jackson (11:25 a.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Mary Kay Nelson said the White Pass Scenic Byway is trying to replace interpretive panels for along Highway 12. Commissioner Fund asked if Onalaska is included in the map. Mary Kay said it is not. Commissioner Jackson joined the meeting at 11:25 a.m. Mary Kay discussed the locations of the current markers, which have been in place for nearly a decade. Commissioner Stamper asked if the expansion could include signs in Onalaska and Toledo. Mary Kay said even Mineral would be good as a gateway community. Mary Kay said she has a potential partner in Naches as well. Mary Kay said it will cost roughly $1,000 per sign. Commissioner Fund said the Historic Fund has typically provided funding totaling $5,000 for the various projects it supports. The group discussed adding Onalaska to the map and possibly changing “Salkum Plateau” to “Mossyrock Plateau.” Mary Kay said the towns paid for installation in the past. The group discussed installing a panel at Carlisle Lake. Commissioner Stamper noted that the Historic Preservation fund totals roughly $53,000. Mary Kay said she would review the maps and report back to the commissioners. Commissioner Stamper said he has asked TDS if they would contribute. He and Commissioner Fund asked if ORM and Tacoma Power might be interested in donating. The group discussed attribution (funded by Lewis County) for the panels. Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper and Mary Kay said there likely would be 10 signs at a cost of roughly $1,000 apiece. Meeting ended at 11:58 a.m.
