Coroner Warren McLeod gave the following updates:
Budget update: Warren discussed increasing the pay for those who obtain ABMDI certification. He also
said federal guidelines for grants are becoming more stringent.
Year-to-date statistics: 260 total, 0 homicides, 5 suicides, 3 accidentals, 1 undetermined, 11 pending, 2
agency assists, 1 department assist, 2 public assists, and 17 autopsies.
Drowning prevention coalition update: Warren said he and Dawn are attending a state coalition
meeting in Federal Way on April 18. He said he plans to discuss Tacoma Power’s liability concerns with
lifejacket loaner stations. He said he has used grants to purchase posters and an A frame and plans to
purchase radio ads.
Pathologist update: Warren said the pathologist has canceled vacation plans to honor contract
obligations.
Dig classes: Warren said classes are planned in June and October. The October session will be a four-day
class.
Warren and Archie Smith further discussed the ABMDI certification request.
