2018-05-07 Update with EDCUpdate with EDC May 7, 2018 1:20 p.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper, Matt Matayoshi, Commissioner Jackson (1:23 p.m.) Guest: Bob Guenther (1:49 p.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Matt Matayoshi said interest in Lewis County has grown dramatically over the last few months. Matt said he will meet with the engineer May 9 in Packwood regarding the water-sewer project. Matt said he’s been asked to apply for coal transition funding. He said the money would be used for comp plans for Winlock and Vader, among other things. Commissioner Jackson joined at 1:23 p.m. Matt said he would like to see Napavine receive some land use and planning assistance. Matt noted WSDOT’s increased efforts in the Napavine. Matt said the relationship with EDA is “going swimmingly.” Matt said he is hopeful that the employee taking over for Glenn Carter will have the same open-door policy. Commissioner Jackson said a Vader councilmember discussed Amazon’s trouble with Seattle and asked whether Amazon would be interested in Lewis County. Matt said he would discuss countywide transportation later in the week. Matt said an area trucking company is looking at adding 100 trucks. Commissioner Jackson left at 1:37 p.m. Matt discussed the need to bring the service providers, NoaNet and the PUDs together to discuss the future of broadband technology. Commissioner Jackson returned at 1:43 p.m. Matt discussed a “fiber to the home” effort that took place in another county. Commissioner Fund asked if EDC could spearhead the broadband process, possibly by using .09 funding. TO-DO LIST / RECAP Rieva: Ask Janelle to add EDC to the PA’s agenda. Matt Matayoshi: Discuss countywide transit and broadband technology with the EDC board. Matt discussed the upcoming “Smart Tank” start-up event. Bob Guenther joined at 1:49 p.m. Bob discussed changes needed to create a freeway interchange at Reynolds Road. Commissioner Jackson and Matt Matayoshi left at 1:56 p.m. Meeting ended at 1:57 p.m.
