selected for the Howe Road project to the Monday, May 14, 2018, agenda. Commissioner Fund
seconded. Motion passed 2-0.
Commissioner Fund said the board has received communication regarding the North Fork realignment
project.
Steve Walton joined at 9:06 a.m.
Steve said Facilities is getting bids for replacement of a faulty air handler in Juvenile. He said the cost will
be roughly $150,000. He said it must be replaced. He said it would require a budget amendment.
Commissioner Stamper joined at 9:07 p.m.
Steve left at 9:08 a.m.
Archie Smith discussed the screening and hiring process for the county manager position. He discussed
postponing the interviews in an effort to expand the candidate pool.
Greg Prothman said prospective applicants may perceive the freeholder process as high risk, and he said
the starting pay may be a factor in the smaller applicant pool.
Greg discussed options such as interviewing the two finalists, hiring an outsider to serve as interim
county manager, or training an internal candidate to serve as an interim county manager.
Bill McDonald said money and location play a role in attracting candidates.
Greg suggested asking the finalists if they’d be interested in filling an interim role.
Archie recapped the board’s options: interview the existing finalists, extend the job posting without
changes, extend the job posting with changes, or bring in an interim (internal or external).
The commissioners agreed to interview the existing finalists May 16.
Meeting ended at 9:49 a.m.
