Coroner Warren McLeod gave the following updates:
Budget update: Warren said the Coroner’s Office has had five indigent cremations so far in 2018, and
that there are five more pending. He said those cost the county $500 apiece.
Year-to-date cases: 328 total deaths, one homicide, seven suicides, four accidentals, one undetermined,
16 pending, one agency assist, one department assist, two public assists, 22 autopsies and 11 external
views. Warren said the free toxicology screenings are several months. He said a private lab would take
two weeks but would cost $225 apiece.
Warren gave the following statistics for 2018: 808 total deaths, two homicides, 28 suicides, 27
accidentals and 11 undetermineds.
Drowning prevention coalition update: Warren said May 18 is Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day.
Warren said coupons being handed out work toward a grant.
Dig classes: Warren said 20 paying participants have registered for the June class. He said he also plans a
four-day class in October.
