2018-06-05 PA UpdateUpdate with the PA’s office June 5, 2018 2:01 p.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Jonathan Meyer, David Fine, Ross Petersen, Eric Eisenberg, Janelle Kambich, Becky Butler (2:09 p.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Jonathan Meyer said there have been fewer ITA cases than anticipated. Jonathan said he has not yet hired an attorney for it. He discussed staffing changes to accommodate the smaller workload. He said one position had been pegged as a paralegal position may instead be done by a legal assistant. He said there have been 30 or so cases resulting in a dozen or so hearings. Jonathan said salaries continue to be an issue for the civil side. He said he has been unable to fill a vacant position. Becky Butler joined at 2:09 p.m. The group discussed office construction to alleviate space constraints. Jonathan said there were 432 case filings by the end of May, a drastic increase compared to the same time period last year (352 cases). He said he would like another criminal attorney and another paralegal. Jonathan said he would be willing to hold an informational meeting for the freeholder candidates. Eric Eisenberg said the Critical Area Ordinance did not include an effective date. He recommended changing the effective date during the hearing and then recalling the ordinance two or so weeks later for the vote. Eric discussed bond forfeiture motions regarding the closure of the Ring and Spring bond company. Eric said Great Rivers Behavioral Health Organization is considering becoming an LLC. He said he has had no objections to the proposal. The commissioners noted that they had not yet received any applicants for the Onalaska Water-Sewer District 5 position. At 2:48 p.m., Commissioner Fund announced that the Board was going into Executive Session under RCW 42.30.110(1)(i) for 20 minutes to discuss pending and potential litigation. At 3:08 p.m., the Board extended Executive Session for 20 minutes. At 3:28 p.m., the Board extended Executive Session for 5 minutes. TO-DO LIST / RECAP Jonathan: Submit a position request in writing.
