2018-06-25 Update with Erik MartinUpdate with Erik Martin June 25, 2018 11:32 a.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Stamper, Erik Martin Recorder: Rieva Lester Erik Martin said he has been attending the commissioners’ various meetings to familiarize himself with their work. Erik said his attorney has made suggestions regarding his employment contract. He said Tim Fife has agreed to serve as the interim Public Works director. He said he has been discussing a recruitment plan for his permanent replacement. He said he doesn’t think it will require hiring a professional recruitment consultant. Erik said he’d like to open the application process in August. Erik discussed plans for assessing staffing in the BOCC office. He said he is working on a work plan, which includes the following: • General oversight of departments and BOCC staff, including director updates, staff duties and work flow • Organizational structures, including potential process improvements • Budget strategies • Flood Control Zone District administration • Elected official outreach • Strategic planning • Public information, including media contacts o Commissioner Jackson said he would contact the Let’s Talk About It radio show about having Erik appear for a segment Commissioner Jackson left at 12:20 p.m. • Committees and professional development, including Erik’s continued involvement in the Public Works Board and APWA, WSAC and ICMA • Public outreach, including possible attendance plans for Industrial Commission, Packwood Business meetings and city council meetings • Key initiatives, such as flooding, Tacoma Power and the Great Rivers Behavioral Health Organization Erik said he would like to develop a communication plan to determine how the board wants to receive information.
