2018-07-23 Weed Assessment MeetingWeed Assessment Meeting
July 23, 2018
4:04 p.m.
Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Arny Davis, Eric Eisenberg, Bill Wamsley, Becky
Butler, Dianne Dorey
Recorder: Rieva Lester
Bill Wamsley said money for a weed assessment come from
roughly 4 percent for Designated Forest Land classification and
96 percent from non-forest land classification.
He discussed possible weed assessment exemptions, such as
senior exemption lands, mineral rights parcels, low-value
parcels, governmental land, etc.
Dianne Dorey suggested Bill look at Pierce County’s resolution.
Arny Davis noted that the foreclosure process for non-payment of property taxes is a four-year process.
Bill discussed administrative costs.
Eric Eisenberg said that in Pierce County, the weed board supplies the list of properties to be charged.
Dianne said the RCW requires that the controlling board determine the amounts.
Dianne noted that thousands of city lots have no acreage listed.
Eric said it may make more sense to include administrative costs for a position that is in charge of
monitoring the weed assessments.
Dianne said she has not yet reached out to Ascend for a cost estimate.
Eric said language could be included to determine that if there is no acreage data available, the amount
could be zero dollars per acre.
Becky Butler left at 4:37 p.m.
Arny suggested holding a work session on queries.
Commissioner Jackson left at 4:40 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
