2018-07-31 Update with IT Meeting Date: July 31, 2018 At 10:00 am – 10:50 Location: Lewis County Commissioner Meeting Room IT Director’s Monthly Update – Wohld, Martin, Commissioners Fund, Stamper, and Jackson. • General Discuss cyber security. o Awareness video and quiz has been well received. Roughly 333 users have completed the training voluntarily. o Our user errors have doubled from a couple months ago, but the increase of attacks is even greater. o Created an inventory of user computers that is working with a program call SysMon, allowing us to trace back endpoint user behavior associated with a click or questionable activity. o We are still very reactionary and we don’t have the ability to do the forensic stuff to setup a case and see why it happened and what signatures can be blocked to avoid a similar instance. o Gabe is still working on the first 7 Critical Controls, and the CCs will remain his top priority for next 3-5 years until fully implemented. o Additional staffing resources may be necessary. Discuss network solutions. o Quarterly maint is this Sunday. Working on getting the racks swapped. About six months behind planned schedule. Discuss staffing. o Janelle starts tomorrow and will be half time for a few weeks. o Dirk is now nearly 100% of his time supporting Munis and will likely be this way for the next two years. This leads us to the Ascend/Sigma migration. 20 years old. Martin suggested a discussion with the MUNIS project team on whether to ask the project to offset the staffing costs for IT. • Technology Services General discussion o Wifi at the Fair is not commercial nor guaranteed, but we’re trying to make it as dependable as possible and ordered a couple spare AP’s that are on the way. o Setting up Fair terminals this week, and TV’s after rain passes. Also setting up iPads for the Fair. o Munis payroll delayed from October to January. This further impacts the demands on Dirk’s time. Arny talked about lining up the Ascend/Sigma replacement for right on the heels of the MUNIS deployment. This will likely keep Dirk out of our staffing resources for the next 3-5 years. o Our deployments are about 4 months behind schedule and we’re about halfway through them. Cyber security work is preventing staff time. I’ve authorized more OT to catch up. Jared for instance will have worked at least 14 days straight between days off. o Looking at new GPS feature for vehicles to replace GPS gate. Assessor, Fleet, and SO all appear interested in the new tech. This may save us a little bit of time. o Cisco port management software demo scheduled. o DLC Toledo kiosk having issues. Looking to swap our repair this week. • Spillman Services General discussion o Recent outage was due to an update of our virtual server. Confused the systems on the servers. • Development Services General discussion o Website migrations (security reasons) is in full swing. o Jail Inmate Check application starts next week. o We are managing pretty well going from a team of 4 to a 2.5. No new technology is being considered, but we’re holding our heads above water. o Election site testing this week to ensure we’re good for next week.
