2018-08-07 Update with BudgetUpdate with Budget August 7, 2018 4:05 p.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Steve Walton, Becky Butler, Wayne Whiton, Janelle Kambich, Jonathan Meyer, Erik Martin, Commissioner Stamper (4:07 p.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Becky Butler said Superior Court wants two armed guards. Commissioner Stamper joined at 4:07 p.m. The group discussed the possibility of a bag scanner in addition to armed security. Becky Butler said it’s likely the county could contract out for two armed guards for the same costs associated with hiring one deputy. Janelle Kambich and Jonathan Meyer left at 4:21 p.m. Becky discussed paid FMLA, which is yet another unfunded mandate. She said it could cost the county $89,000. Becky said PEBB’s increase likely will be 4.9 percent. The group discussed applicants for the Budget Advisory Committee. Commissioner Fund left at 4:32 p.m. Becky said she believes the sheriff’s office wants two corrections officers for the jail as well as two deputies and a records clerk. The group discussed the costs associated with Naphcare. Becky said the preliminary budget will be presented Sept. 4. Becky discussed the possibility of hiring staff for the Tacoma Power project. Erik Martin left at 4:49 p.m. and returned at 4:51 p.m. Becky and Wayne Whiton discussed new rules regarding PTSD under SB 5975. Wayne Whiton left at 5:06 p.m. Meeting adjourned at 5:08 p.m.
