Kimball from the Army Corp of Engineers noted the Army Corps has no significant concerns with the Lewis County levees. IV. Overview of Levee’s Tim gave an overview of the levees with maps on the screen. He also reviewed our tour route. Tim stated that transportation was available for those who wanted to ride. V. Levee Tour Tour began at 12:55 pm Airport Levee Reviewed the new pump house that was constructed about a year and a half ago and was partially funded by the flood authority. The pump house was previously at the pipe level. It is believed the levee dates back to the 1940’s. Last year a culvert was dug up and re bedded.
Salzer Creek Levee Levee starts at N. National and was breached in the 2007 flood. The Army Corp of engineers did repairs to the levee after the flood. We will need to check the pumps prior to flood season to make sure they are in working order. We also need to make sure the culvert is cleared for access. Long term goal: replace the pump. Long Rd Levee Kimball noted that the Corps would be coming out within a year to do a field test to see if the soil is soft. A flatter surface would be desirable on this levee. Skookumchuck Levee Brief discussion was held regarding the Skookumchuck levee.
Tour ended at 3:40 pm.
