Commissioner Jackson made a motion to add the legal aid termination agreement to the day’s BOCC
Legislative agenda.
Commissioner Fund seconded.
Motion passed 2-0.
Dennis Day of Lewis County Fire District 17 said the district’s contract with Pierce County Fire District 23
will expire in 20 days. He said one Fire 17 commissioner died 11 months ago and another commissioner
moved away. He said he believes the commissioner who moved away incorrectly appointed two
individuals but didn’t follow legal procedures – and that one of one of the appointees does not live in
the district.
Dennis said Pierce County is going to approve a 90-day extension.
Ridge Horton of Lewis County Fire District 17 said the remaining commissioner has not completed the
budget or audit. He said one “appointed” commissioner lives in Bonney Lake.
Dennis asked that the commissioners step in and help.
Cullen Gatten said it may be the case that the Board of County Commissioners may need to appoint fire
district commissioners.
At 9:25 a.m., Commissioner Fund announced that the Board was going into Executive Session under
RCW 42.30.110(1)(i) for 5 minutes to discuss pending and potential litigation.
Executive Session ended at 9:30 a.m. with Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Dr. Pollock, Alex
Brown and Alex Brown in attendance.
Commissioner Fund said she has heard that the Timberland Regional Library may close an additional day
each week.
There was no update on Water District 5 and no update on the LEWIS Mountain Highway Transit grant.
Commissioner Fund discussed the North Lewis County Interchange. She said a decision about whether a
Tiger grant was secured is expected later in the month.
Commissioner Jackson made a motion to appoint Lee Napier to the Nisqually Watershed board.
Commissioner Fund seconded.
Motion passed 2-0.
Susan DeLaire left at 9:38 a.m.
The commissioners discussed a request for a National Schools Choice proclamation.
