Lewis County Seniors Board President Ron Averill reviewed the Lewis County Seniors Board’s budget. He
noted that fundraising continues to lag, and that his hope is to enlist the help of someone who can
spearhead fundraising efforts. Ron said the centers have reached out to all cities to request funding
support. He and Glenda Forga noted:
• Centralia has pledged $15,000.
• Pe Ell is being asked to pledge $500.
• Chehalis is being asked to pledge $10,000.
Ron and Glenda said the amounts requested are being very loosely based on socio economics and
population.
Ron said thrift store sales totals are at roughly $41,700. He estimated the profit would be $50,000 for
the year.
Becky Butler requested a copy of the thrift store budget. Ron declined to provide it, responding that the
thrift store budget is the Seniors Board’s budget.
Ron said the thrift store will provide $40,000 annually, a portion of which covers nutrition. The group
discussed the AAA’s per-meal contribution, which Ron said totals $3.71. Glenda said the meals cost
$9.86 apiece. Ron said the centers have served 26,092 meals year to date.
Glenda said the area’s homeless population sometimes will wander in during meal time. Commissioner
Fund noted that the Salvation Army has agreed to extend its hours so the homeless can stay longer as
they wait for the cold weather shelter to open.
Glenda and Ron said the Seniors Board has not yet developed a 2020 budget.
Ron said the new entry way lights have been installed at the Morton center. He said the flooring at the
Toledo center will be completed later in the month.
Becky noted that the Seniors Board’s request for $100,000 will be discussed during the county’s
November budget meetings.
Meeting ended at 3:15 p.m.
