Todd Chaput discussed the creation of a sports commission.
Todd discussed the Public Facilities District (PFD) and .09 funding for the sports complex.
He recommended extending the tax rebate from the state. He said the rebate has 10 years left. He said
he’d like to restructure the debt of the sports complex to level it out. He discussed a bill in the state
Legislature.
Todd said Lewis County’s is the only one in the black.
Commissioner Jackson asked if the sports complex could be used as a venue for other events, such as
conventions or concerts. Todd said the complex has always been open to other uses as long as those
events put people in local hotels.
The group discussed mid-week uses for the facilities.
Todd said he’d like to see the second-floor mezzanine completed.
Todd said Bonnie had resigned from the PFD.
Todd said an expansion will increase the marketability. He also discussed naming rights.
Commissioner Fund asked for clarification about the potential request for .09 dollars. Todd said the PFD
is asking for a loan forgiveness, not new funding.
Todd said the PFD has used the .09 money that was allocated.
The group further discussed selling the naming rights.
Todd also discussed using a point person to promote Lewis County lodging, tour buses, etc.
The group discussed the need for more hotels to accommodate the sports teams using the complex.
The group discussed the breakdown of area school districts.
