2017-05-23 Meeting with budgetMeeting with Budget May 23, 2017 2:30 p.m. Attendees: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Jackson, Steve Walton, Becky Butler, Carma Oaksmith Guest: Justyna Tomtas Recorders: Rachel Hunt and Rieva Lester The group discussed personnel changes in the Fiscal Department. US Bank- Carma outlined her responsibilities as the US Bank administrator. The group discussed various aspects of the US Bank payments and billing. Carma left the meeting at 2:51 p.m. Budget Discussions • Financial forecast – 2% reduction • Secure Rural Schools funding • WSU budget – the group discussed various other counties’ WSU extension offices • Discover Lewis County – possibility of using grant funding Becky asked about an expenditure limit for Health. Rachel Hunt left and Rieva Lester joined the meeting at 3:01 p.m. Becky asked if the commissioners wanted to look at staffing or courthouse hours as areas in which to save money. • Commissioner Fund said positions would remain vacant until sick leave and vacation are paid out. • Commissioner Jackson asked if there were any retirement forecasts. • Becky discussed the fact that a new hire often will come in at a lower rate. Becky asked if the commissioners had discussed health care options. • She said some counties limit it to one policy per household (no double coverage allowed) – ask Archie to add to next agenda • Three-tenths of 1 percent tax – ask Sheriff to add to his update • Levy shift options from roads – want to discuss with Dianne Dorey? Becky discussed expenditure limitations. She said she’ll return in September to show the board where the departments have estimated. The group discussed timber projections. Becky discussed spending for Chemical Dependency-Mental Health and Therapeutic Courts (CD-MH-TC). The group expressed a desire to set up a meeting with Sheila Gray and all three commissioners, as well as Becky Butler and Steve Walton, regarding WSU. Commissioner Fund said she wants to schedule time for a walk-around at the Twin Cities Senior Center with Steve Walton and Doug Carey. Meeting ended at 3:29 p.m.
