2017-08-30 Meeting with ASCOT Mine RepresentativesMeeting with ASCOT Resources Representatives August 30, 2017 Start time- 2:20 p.m. Attendees: Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Fund (Via telephone), Commissioner Jackson (2:27) Cy Myers, Mike McDonald Guests: Tom Crowson (2:52) Recorder: Rachel Hunt The U.S. Forest Service made a decision of a finding of no significant environmental impact on Wednesday of last week. Mike McDonald gave a permit update stating that the objection period is now open for 45 days. The U.S. Forest Service is only wanting objections instead of comments. Commissioner Jackson joined the meeting at 2:27 p.m. Commissioner Fund joined the meeting in person at 2:28 p.m. The second step in the process is getting a decision from the Bureau of Land Management. Commissioner Jackson asked about the current level of support for the project. Mike reiterated that there is support from several counties in southwest Washington. The group discussed the current status of the roads around the project site. Mike discussed the various news agencies currently writing articles on the project. Commissioner Jackson asked about how long it would be before there are sustainable jobs at the site. Mike McDonald outlined the next steps after they are granted a prospecting permit. Tom Crowson joined the meeting at 2:52 p.m. The group discussed the future implications of having more family wage jobs in the east end of Lewis County. Commissioner Fund invited Mike and Cy to the third legislative roundtable. Meeting ended at 3:00 p.m.
