II. Introductions
Everyone introduced themselves.
III. Army Corps of Engineers
Kimball from the Army Corp of Engineers noted that he and his team are interested in assisting with flood
events and also brought inspections reports for the group to review.
IV. Overview of Levee’s
Airport Levee
Erik noted that Larry Dobyns will show the group the new pump house that was constructed last year by
Roglins and partially funded by the flood authority. Larry believe the levee dated back to the 1940’s. Last
year a culvert was dug up and re bedded.
Salzer Creek Levee
Levee starts at N. National and was breached in the 2007 flood. The Army Corp of engineers did repairs to
the levee after the flood.
Long Rd Levee
Erik noted a diking district owns the levee the Port of Centralia took control of it in recent years.
Skookumchuck Levee
Brief discussion was held regarding the Skookumchuck levee.
V. Aerial Photos/other resources
Erik showed aerial photos of each levee and also reviewed websites for Windy TV.com, The National
Weather Service and the Lewis County website.
VI. Review Route
Erik reviewed the levee tour route and asked if anyone needed transportation to the levees.
VII. Tour
Starting at 8:40 a.m., the group toured the Salzer Creek levee, the Airport Rd levee, and the Skookumchuck
levee. The group met entrance to the Long Rd levee property but did not go on the levee as it is privately
owned and no right-of-entry was obtained. The group observed the Long Rd levee from the City ROW.
Meeting ended at 11:48 am.
