WHEREAS, every hour of every day, people
need access to essential services, such as United

food banks, rental and utility assistance programs, Way 110 P
and domestic abuse shelters; and
United Way of Lewis County
WHEREAS, United Way of Lewis County has 30% OUT O F POVERTY BY 2030
identified access to resources as one of its key
focus areas as it looks to fulfill its mission to lift
30 percent of families out of poverty by 2030; and
WHEREAS, 211 is a free and easy-to-remember telephone number that connects people with
life-changing resources, such as food, shelter, rental assistance,volunteer opportunities, disaster relief,
education opportunities,etc , and
WHEREAS,the 211 helpline provides assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and
WHEREAS,the South Sound 211 call center at United Way of Pierce County provided support to more
than 89,000 contacts in Lewis,Thurston and Pierce counties in 2018 alone,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT in recognition of the tremendous service the 211 helpline
provides in connecting callers to much-needed resources,the Lewis County Board of County
Commissioners hereby proclaims Tuesday, February 11, 2020, as 211 Day in Lewis County.
