2020-07-14 GIS positionUpdate with Assessor re: GIS position
July 14, 2020
2:36 p.m.
Present: Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, County Manager Erik
Martin, Steve Wohld, Assessor Dianne Dorey, Josh Metcalf, Steve Walton, Tammy Martin
Recorder: Rieva Lester
Assessor Dianne Dorey said GIS began in her office in 1998. She said it was later moved to Public Works.
Dianne said tasks no longer are being completed in a timely manner. She said her office needs a GIS
position to speed up tasks her office needs completed, such as cleanup of property information, moving
rivers, adjusting roads, updating property sales information and other projects.
Josh Metcalf discussed staffing levels and noted that GIS has one vacancy. He said he would prefer to
dedicate one position to be the point person for the Assessor’s Office rather than having a separate
position housed in the Assessor’s Office.
Erik Martin urged the group to allow Josh an opportunity to address the issues, rather than have
centralized work moved under another office / department.
Dianne the process already is separated out. She said the Assessor’s Office owns the parcel layer.
Josh asked for 30 days to review and address the concerns.
Commissioner Fund left at 3:03 p.m.
Erik said Josh and the GIS staff will work with Dianne over the next 30 days to develop a plan for
addressing the concerns.
Meeting adjourned at 3:06 p.m.
