2020-08-17 BOCC Wrap-UpBOCC Wrap-Up August 17, 2020 9:05 a.m. Present: Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, County Manager Erik Martin, Amber Smith, Becky Butler, Josh Metcalf, Dianne Dorey, Jonathan Meyer, Lee Napier, Suzette Smith, Alison Puckett Guests: Sean Swope, Dr. Lindsey Pollock, Frank Corbin Recorder: Rieva Lester Commissioner Fund made a motion to add to the day’s Business Meeting agenda the following resolution: Resolution 20-282: Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact and Intent to Request Release of Funds for the LCFD #3 Construction Project in Mossyrock. Commissioner Jackson seconded. Motion passed 3-0. Commissioner Stamper said The Chronicle recently ran an article about the possible expansion of the Toledo airport. He said it is unlikely the site would be selected as a regional airport. However, he said, the county wants to get the airport’s name out there to help with potential grant proposals, etc. Josh Metcalf noted that this is the first phase of the aviation study. Commissioner Fund discussed her vision for the Toledo Airport. She said she wants growth, but not a SeaTac II-type of project. She said the county knew Toledo wouldn’t be the next SeaTac. Josh clarified that the only step the county has taken is to add its name in the hat and respond to the state Department of Transportation’s requests for information. Commissioner Jackson urged the public to reach out to the commissioners with any questions. He echoed that the county wanted to explore the topic and improve its stance for outside funding. Commissioner Stamper said the county has spent $6 million on improvements at the Packwood and Toledo airports in the past few years, much of it with federal aviation funding. Commissioner Fund said Mount Rainier National Park has asked visitors to be mindful of overcrowding at the parks. Commissioner Fund discussed National Suicide Prevention Week. She said she would like to invite clinicians to attend the meeting during which the topic is discussed. Becky Butler discussed broadband proposals for Coronavirus Relief Funding. Becky noted that Debbie Campbell is being invited to discuss the proposal Joe Clark presented. Becky also discussed OSPI’s recent announcement that it will provide some funding for wifi. Amber Smith said she has reviewed the two broadband proposals. She said one applicant appears to be more of a subrecipient and more of a study. She said the other has provided clear financial documentation. The commissioners discussed their calendars. Meeting ended at 9:52 a.m.
