PROCLAMATION AFFIRMING LEWIS COUNTY'S COMMITMENT TO UPHOLD
CITIZENS '
RIGHTS
LEWIS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS,the foundation of government in the United States of America is a written constitution;and
WHEREAS,the U.S.Constitution provides a structure of government designed to prevent the rise of tyranny
through a carefully designed system of separation of powers, preventing any one branch of that government from
obtaining an advantage over the States and the People;and
WHEREAS,the U.S.Constitution includes a body of Amendments known as the Bill of Rights protecting of our
citizens' most cherished liberties,to include Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech,the Right to Peacefully
Assemble,the Right to Petition the Government for Redress of Grievances,the Right to Bear Arms,the Right to be
Secure in Their Property and Possessions,the Right Against Self Incrimination,the Right to Due Process and Fair
Trials Before an Impartial Jury,and other essential rights and protections necessary to a free people;and
WHEREAS,the State of Washington further adopted a Constitution stating that"All political power is inherent in
the people,and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to
protect and maintain individual rights";and
WHEREAS,the citizens of Lewis County hold these individual rights and all amendments to the Constitution
outlining these rights to be hallowed;and
WHEREAS,recent federal and state actions have sought to limit or eliminate certain traditionally-held rights of
the people guaranteed under the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of
Washington;and
WHEREAS,the citizens of Lewis County have expressed particular concern that their Second Amendment
rights/right to bear arms(Article 1,Section 24 of the state Constitution)be preserved unimpaired;and
WHEREAS,the members of this Board and other elected officials of Lewis County have taken a solemn oath to
uphold the Constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Washington.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the Board of Lewis County Commissioners reaffirm their
oath to uphold the Constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Washington.
