Remembrance & Commemoration
September 11, 2021
LEWIS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS, it has been 20 years since the unimaginable became reality...the Twin Towers fell, United
Flight 93 crashed, and the Pentagon was damaged;and
WHEREAS, Lewis County joins with our fellow Americans across the nation in honoring and
remembering those who lost their lives in the horrific terrorist attacks on September 11,2001; and
WHEREAS,we continue to offer support to the families and friends who lost loved ones in the
devastating events of this day, and especially our firefighters, police and first responders,who continue
to step forward and serve our communities with dedication and vigilance; and
WHEREAS,today,while we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001,we also honor
the heroic actions taken by our first responders and thank the members of our military for their
continued service and sacrifice.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners recognizes
Saturday,September 11, 2021, as a day of mourning for the lives lost 20 years ago but also as a day of
commemoration and remembrance for all those who perform their duties with great resolve,who
honorably serve and at times commit themselves to the ultimate sacrifice, and who have given their
lives to provide for our safekeeping,to preserve our democracy and to protect our freedom.
Done in open session this 27th day of August 2021.
