LEWIS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WHEREAS,Washington has the second-highest risk of suffering damaging earthquakes in the United States, and scientific evidence indicates the G October 21 state is vulnerable to additional earthquakes in the future; and " , 2021 WHEREAS,the loss of life and property can be greatly reduced through shake appropriate earthquake preparedness and mitigation measures;and O Ut WHEREAS,the time it takes for Lewis County to recover following a ■ �@ W�VWShakeOut.ory Lit significant earthquake will be greatly reduced if citizens and businesses are well-prepared, especially if they are "two weeks ready"; and WHEREAS, minimizing the potential for injury during future earthquakes depends on the ability to rapidly take personal protective actions; and WHEREAS, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lewis County citizens may find themselves in alternate locations from work or school, providing an opportunity to practice earthquake safety in those new sites and secure those spaces before an earthquake. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners recommends that all citizens and businesses to participate in The Great Washington Shake Out earthquake drill at 10:21 a.m. October 21, 2021,to help learn what to do during an earthquake and therefore avoid the added and unnecessary trauma of being caught unprepared.To register for the statewide drill,visit https://www.shakeout.org/washington/.
