Brief Description of Program or Service Enhancement:
Police Reform Laws require changes in how we respond/conform to new mandates; along with addressing 1990 deputy staffing levels. The new laws require multiple deputies respond to certain
calls and more time spent gathering information than in the past. As part of this, body-worn/in-car cameras are needed. Camera Program costs will be disseminated over five years, so
we are requesting the year two amount, along with in-car camera install costs for 2022. Information from the Camera Program will increase staff workload in our Records Section. As
such, a Support Tech position is needed to process all requests (PDR, evidentary, etc.) associated with this Program.
Advantages of Approval:
Approving each of these requests will allow us to meet the demands of the new Police Reform Laws, and help in recovering deputy staffing levels. Each request will aid us in supporting
our Motto, Mission, and Vision; and ultimately protect Lewis County citizens.
Implications of Denial:
Denial of these requests will impede our efforts in meeting the public safety demands of the new Police Reform Laws and what's expected of us as public servants. Most certainly our overtime
costs will increase, along with liability exposure, and we will need to ask for help with Budgetary Amendments later in 2022.
