Swope, Vice Chair SX 1g45 : ••ym'GTON'S:'• Rieva Lester •••• Rieva Lester, Vacant, Commissioner Clerk of the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners Page 1 of 1 PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 20, 2021, AS M04VIV LEWISAl COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WHEREAS, Lewis County recognizes the importance of giving children permanent, safe (4.11111n and loving families through adoption; and \4(111° WHEREAS,an estimated 123,000 children are in foster care in the United States— `"' ,� including more than 9,200 in Washington and more than 760 in Lewis County;and WHEREAS, more than 20,000 children "age out"of Washington State's foster care system without ever finding a permanent home and family; and WHEREAS,outreach to adoptive families has been identified as a critical step in moving children more quickly from temporary,caring foster homes to permanent homes; and WHEREAS, a coalition of child welfare organizations and businesses working to improve the lives of foster children founded National Adoption Day in 2000 in an effort to celebrate adoptive families and also highlight the thousands of foster children across the U.S.waiting for new families; and WHEREAS,spreading the word about National Adoption Day—which falls on Saturday, November 20,2021, this year—helps raise awareness about the many children waiting to find homes,giving them a chance to join new families. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners hereby proclaims November 20,2021,as National Adoption Day and urges all citizens to celebrate adoptive families and to talk about the importance of adoption.
