6:34 p.m.
Present: Commissioner Pollock, Commissioner Swope, Commissioner Grose, County Manager Erik
Martin, Lara McRea, Jonathan Meyer (6:39 p.m.)
Recorder: Rieva Lester
The group discussed road and weather conditions. They discussed snow totals countywide and the
benefits of decreasing traffic to allow roads crews and emergency personnel to work.
Jonathan Meyer joined at 6:39 p.m.
Jon said the only hiccup he could see regarding closing the court house would be that other electeds
may not choose to close their offices.
Erik Martin read the provisions outlined in RCW 42.30.070, under which the emergency meeting was
called.
The commissioners discussed their calendars for the following day.
Jonathan reviewed past practice regarding closing county buildings.
Commissioner Grose clarified that the commissioners would close the departments under the BOCC.
Jonathan noted that the courts and the PA’s Office must follow the courts’ schedule. He noted that the
Sheriff’s Office also would make its own determination.
Jonathan said he felt hazards surrounding the weather conditions support the call for an emergency
meeting as long as everyone agreed that the roads were hazardous.
Erik said he reached out to the Treasurer and Auditor to inform them a closure was a possibility. He said
he didn’t have a number for the Assessor. Commissioner Swope said he would reach out to her.
Commissioner Swope said closing the courthouse would help keep the roads clear for Public Works road
crews and emergency personnel and would help ensure the safety of county employees.
Commissioner Swope made a motion to close the courthouse on Dec. 27, 2021. Commissioner Grose
seconded.
Commissioner Swope made a motion to amend his motion to include closures of the Public Health
building and the Kresky building on Dec. 27, 2021. Commissioner Grose seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
