Patrick Schults said the master gardener program is starting to pick back up. The plant and insect clinics
are doing well with attendance over past years. He is looking at having more classes for the community.
The demo gardens have received positive feedback. Each garden has unique offerings. The master
recycler projects have been slow due to a lack of volunteers, but they will be partnering with Lewis
County Facilities to repurpose and upcycle materials that otherwise would have been taken to the
dump. The lunchtime learning series had 20 workshops last year and this year’s programs were called
the gardening series and was a beginners gardening program. The extension office has volunteers to
help with soils, weeds and pests. Last March saw online classes called Gardening for Everyone and had
108 attendees. The master gardeners are looking for members and will have a hybrid training for the
master gardener program. There are 12 master gardener workshops and 6 master recycler workshops
planned for 2022.
Charles Edmonson said he is coordinating efforts to interview for a vacancy for the volunteer weed
position. Charles said there were large amounts of tansy complaints for 2021 and that he is looking to
reach out to property owners to mitigate tansy. There are programs that reimburse for herbicides, and
Charles said they are trying to increase the reimbursement cap as well as begin including labor costs as a
reimbursable item.
