2022-04-07 WSAC Courthouse BriefingWSAC Courthouse Briefing April 7, 2022 8 a.m. Present: Commissioner Pollock, Commissioner Swope, Washington Association of Counties (WSAC) Executive Director Eric Johnson, WSAC Executive Committee President Jamie Stephens, Becky Butler, Lara McRea, Tiffanie Morgan Guest: Nic Scott Recorder: Rieva Lester Washington Association of Counties (WSAC) Executive Director Eric Johnson and WSAC Executive Committee President Jamie Stephens introduced themselves. Eric noted that counties across the state are more financially stable than they’ve been in quite some time but that the stability may not be long-lasting. Eric reviewed WSAC’s: • Goals and purpose • Personnel, staff and members • Pandemic response • Administration and finance • Advocacy • Legislative Steering Committee • Legislative priorities Eric noted that WSAC’s Board of Directors works on litigation, strategic planning, etc., while the Steering Committee works on policy. Commissioner Pollock left at 8:29 a.m. and then joined by phone. The group discussed housing, including homeless shelters and affordable housing. The group discussed American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding and allocations. Eric reviewed WSAC’s federal priorities. The group discussed Secure Rural Schools and Payment in Lieu of Taxes funding. Commissioner Pollock left at some time before 9:06 a.m., ending the quorum and therefore adjourning the meeting.
