John Abplanalp, Javier Mejia, Dr. Wiley, Dr. Melnick, Dr. Krager

The commissioners interviewed Dr. Wiley beginning at 3:31 p.m.
At 3:53 p.m., Commissioner Pollock announced that the board was recessing until 4:30 p.m.
The meeting resumed at 4:31 p.m.
The commissioners interviewed Dr. Melnick and Dr. Krager beginning at 4:31 p.m.
They completed their interview at 5:11 p.m.
Commissioner Swope made a motion to appoint and hire Dr. Wiley. Commissioner Grose seconded.
The commissioners discussed the following:
• Dr. Wiley’s credentials
• Dr. Wiley’s lack of a master’s degree in public health
• Population medicine vs. individual medicine
• Public support of Dr. Wiley
The need to monitor Dr. Wiley’s progress in obtaining accreditation
The commissioners voted 2-1 to appoint Dr. Wiley as the Health Officer, with Commissioner Swope and
Commissioner Grose voting in favor and Commissioner Pollock opposed.
