2023-05-15 E911 fund discussionE911 fund discussion May 15, 2023 11:10 a.m. Present: Commissioner Brummer, Commissioner Pollock, Interim County Manager Steve Wohld, Jennifer Libby-Jones, Becky Butler, Nic Scott Guest(s): None Recorder: Rieva Lester Public comment: None. The commissioners discussed the Combined User Committee’s (CUC) request for a 911 tax. The commissioners said they’d like to know what the CUC’s proposal would pay for and whether it would be a one-tenth of 1 percent sales tax or a two-tenths of 1 percent sales tax. The commissioners also asked how the CUC’s proposal would affect the current users’ fees. Becky Butler noted that the county would still provide some services and that contracts with the Assessor’s Office and Treasurer’s Office, etc., might be required. Jenn said an outside legal counsel provided a quote of $15,000 to $20,000 to work on changing the 911 governance. Jenn said the CUC would like to change its governance before the end of the year. The commissioners expressed concerns that the cost to taxpayers will increase $2 million yet the cost to the users will remain unchanged. Jenn said county employees would retain their PERS retirements. She discussed the potential transfer of assets, such as equipment, etc., and for maintenance. The commissioners questioned the benefit to the citizens. The commissioners said they would further discuss the CUC’s request in the future. Meeting adjourned at 11:58 a.m.
