2023-07-24 CM UpdateCounty Manager Update July 24, 2023 10:32 a.m. Present: Commissioner Brummer, Commissioner Pollock, Interim County Manager Steve Wohld, Lee Napier, Meja Handlen, Becky Butler, Doug Carey, Matt Jaeger, Nic Scott, Violet Barboza, Daleyn Coleman, Tammy Martin, Cynthia Mudge (10:54 a.m.) Guest(s): None Recorder: Rieva Lester Public comment: None. 911 sales tax: Steve Wohld discussed recent outreach to Chehalis regarding the Combined User Committee’s request to place the proposed two-tenths of 1 percent 911 sales tax on the ballot. He said Chehalis has indicated it does not and will not support the proposed tax. County Manager succession planning, including CM admin assistant position: Steve said incoming County Manager Ryan Barrett will start Aug. 28. He requested that IT set Ryan up for email, etc. Steve also noted that BOCC staff has requested the county delay filling the Office Manager position and instead consider a reorg of the office, depending on the new County Manager’s needs. Public Health funding workshop: Meja Handlen discussed Foundational Public Health Services contracts. She said she will further discuss the topic on July 26. Office space request: Steve said Klein Schmidt has requested permission to use office space while the company works with Matt Dillin on the Chehalis River Basin Flood Control Zone District. The commissioners approved the request. Cynthia Mudge of the Chamber of Commerce joined at 10:54 a.m. Request for use of Pacific Avenue and Center Street parking lots Aug. 5-6: Cynthia Chamber of Commerce has requested permission to erect grandstands on county parking lots for the group’s three- on-three basketball tournament. The commissioners approved the request. Announcements / new business: Steve said the county re-erected headstones that had been toppled at the Mountain View Cemetery but that additional headstones were toppled over the weekend.
