Cascade Forest Conservancy Executive Director Molly Whitney and Policy Manager Ashley Short
discussed the Cascade Forest Conservancy and The Green River Valley Alliance, which is designed to
protect the Mount St. Helens area from mining.
They noted the proposed area is located in Skamania County.
Molly and Ashley said they recommend taking a stand against a mineral withdrawal to avoid the
potential of an open-pit mine. They said the area would be 46,000 square miles.
The commissioners requested follow-up information.
Commissioner Brummer said a mining operation would increase truck traffic, increasing wear and tear
on the roads.
