Community Development budget / annual fee schedule: Lee Napier reviewed Community
Development’s current fee schedule. She said she is proposing a 25 percent increase in the permitting
cost per square foot, which would create a cost increase of roughly 15 percent. Lee noted that
expenditures are increasing and that she would like to reduce Community Development’s reliance on
the General Fund. She noted that all property owners pay into the General Fund and that increasing the
permit fees would instead have the developers and others building homes to shoulder the increased
costs.
Lee noted that the last substantial increase took place in 2017 and that the 2017 increase was the
county’s first since 2007.
2024 budget planning, including calendars: Becky Butler previewed the all-day Budget Meetings
planned for Oct. 11, 16 and 18. Becky said she’ll also be seeking the BOCC’s views on property taxes.
2023 budget review: Becky said she is monitoring offices’ and departments’ budgets for 2023.
Becky provided updates on the broadband project, American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) projects and the
new procurement software.
