2024-03-04 Wrap-upWrap-Up March 4, 2024 9:00 a.m. Present: Commissioner Brummer, Commissioner Pollock, Commissioner Swope, County Manager Ryan Barrett, Doug Carey, Barbara Russell, Meja Handlen, Lee Napier, Becky Butler, Eric Eisenberg, Josh Metcalf, Coleman Rogers, Josh Weiss, Troy Nichols, David Bailey, Shad Hail, Sherri Dokken Guest(s): Members from the public Recorder: Tammy Martin Public comment: None Mountain View Cemetery: Becky Butler said there were interested individuals, but no actual proposals were received for Mountain View Cemetery. Planning Commission vacancy: Lee Napier said there is a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Commissioner Pollock was in favor of Julie Balmelli-Powe. Commissioner Swope was in favor of Roger Moore, but did say all three candidates were very well qualified. Commissioner Brummer said Roger Moore is a user of the Planning Commission and has first-hand knowledge of processes. Lee said any person that is chosen needs to recognize the time commitment this would require. Commissioner Pollock made a motion to add to BOCC Director’s Update on March 6, to include the nomination of Roger Moore to the Planning Commission. Commissioner Swope seconded. Motion passed 3-0. Flood Control District 2 vacancy: Commissioner Brummer said there are approximately 50 people living within the district’s area. It was suggested that the BOCC reach out to all the residents about serving on the Board. Commissioner Brummer asked to add this back to Directors’ Update. LTAC vacancy: Tammy Martin spoke to the vacancies on the Lodging tax committee. There are 4 vacancies that include two user positions: 1 two-year term and 1 six-year term and two provider positions: 1 two-year term and 1 six-year term. The Board recommended issuing a press release announcing the open positions for 30 days. Commissioner Swope said that under correspondence received, he wanted to have SWWCA on the agenda to discuss. Commissioner Swope also said the Legislative Steering Committee (LSC) has adopted weigh-in voting. He feels this opens the idea of acceptance for other issues that should be individually voted on. Legislative Update: Troy Nichols said the capital budget and the transportation has wrapped up. Once agreements have been reached, it takes about 24 hours for the Bills to be presented. Troy expects to see them any day Troy feels confident about Lewis County’s position for the interchange. Josh Weiss said there will be three initiatives passed. Josh said he was encouraged with some bills that passed. LAMIRD Bill, clarification of .09 dollars, flood proofing bill. Josh said he would schedule time with the Commissioners to do an in-person presentation. Commissioner Brummer said he was concerned about the Governor’s use of line-item veto. Both Josh and Troy felt each ask was reasonable. Meeting ended 9:41 a.m.
