2025-01-13 Auditor Treasurer UpdateAuditor / Treasurer / Finance Committee Update January 13, 2025 10:02 a.m. Present: Commissioner Brummer, Commissioner Pollock, Commissioner Swope, County Manager Ryan Barrett, Grace Jimenez, Graham Gowing, Larry Grove, Rodney Reynolds, Meja Handlen, Arny Davis Guest(s): None Recorder: Tammy Martin Public comment: None Finance Committee: Arny Davis started the Finance Committee update at 10:02 a.m. Rodney Reynolds presented slides for short-term investments, long-term investments, Lewis County’s investment pool (LCIP), and discussed the quarterly investment compliance review. Arny Davis closed the Finance Committee meeting at 10:23 a.m. Treasurer Office Updates: Commissioner Swope asked about investing in Bitcoin. Rodney Reynolds explained there are certain principals required for investing public funds. Rodney said it is important to always consider safety, liquidity, and returns. Rodney said returns should never come before safety or liquidity. The funds being invested should never lose the initial investment. Rodney said sales and use tax receipts saw a 0.5% YTD increase from the previous year and lodging tax saw an increase 7.4% over 2023. Auditor’s Office Updates: Grace Jimenez provided the year-to-date general fund report to the Commissioners. Grace said that this time, all departments are within budget. Graham Gowing addressed the Board about presenting the warrant resolution. For use of resources, Graham suggested not reading the warrant detail piece during the meeting. This will be a slight change in process for the weekly Business Meeting. Larry Grove said ballots will go out January 21. 10:51 a.m.
