The Honorable Jonathan Meyer
Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office
345 W Main St PRO 01
Chehalis, WA 98532
Dear Mr. Meyer,
Starting in 2024, the State of Washington provided a grant to the Washington
Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (WAPA) under contract #IA25-061 to fund a law
student rural public prosecution program for twelve interns located in underserved and
rural areas of the state. RCW 43.101.505.
As a rural or underserved county, Lewis County qualifies for the program and is eligible
to receive funds to compensate an intern at the rate of $27/hour with no more than 40
hours per week and a $900/month housing stipend during a 10–12-week internship
period.
This letter confirms final authorization for up to $13,875.00 for intern compensation and
housing stipends during the state fiscal year from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. We
anticipate this grant to be renewed July 1, 2025, however, if the legislature decides not
to renew, funding will cease June 30, 2025.
Funding will be disbursed upon receipt of the following:
∙ A rental lease agreement if you are requesting a housing stipend.
∙ A completed A-19 invoice with a payroll report and an internship report due
monthly. The internship report should document general job duties and tasks as well as
any professional development over the internship period.
Congratulations and I look forward to working together.
Sincerely,
Russell Brown
Executive Director
Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys
