2015-11-24 Meeting with Lloyd HalversonMeeting with Lloyd Halverson November 24, 2015 1:30 pm Present: Commissioners Schulte, Fund and Stamper, Lee Napier, Matt Matayoshi, Tim Elsea and Lloyd Halverson Reporter: Karri Muir Tim Elsea gave introductions for the group. Mr. Halverson gave how Camas came to be what it is today. Visionary and Effective Community Planning Vision: A preferred future for the community-The elected officials are the key role in shaping the “vision”. This is the big picture, the long term vision for Lewis County. Land Use Planning-public participation can strengthen the durability. The vision and the comp plan should fit together. Capital Improvement Planning-this should be driven by the vision also. Budgets-once a vision is established, go after outside money. Most likely there will not ever be enough money internally do all the projects that are in the vision. If the vision is strong it can help the budget process. Commissioner Fund stated we have been struggling with the perception that the county gets in the way of development. We try to be friendly to development, but we also have to protect our county. Lloyd noted that the Commissioner should keep cultivating relationship with the major businesses. Collaboration with others-Elected officials, key staff and key people in the community. Model Communities Kirkland Sammamish Grandview Prosser Ridgefield Kalama The next step could be a committee to look at this. Another route would be to invite a few Elected Officials to discuss this idea. Tim asked the question, how do we get our vision out to the public? Mr. Halverson left the meeting at 3:10 pm Commissioner Fund asked the question where do we go from here. There was discussion on negative press in the local papers. Matt stated that he feels the County should put in a guest editorial once a month highlighting what has happened over the past month. There was discussion on the recent article in the Chronicle regarding the article regarding the Lewis County Assessor. “Preferred Future” was the desired outcome of the meeting. Commissioner Schulte stated his vision is developing the I-5 Corridor with a flood solution while preserving the rural diversity of the local communities. Meeting adjourned at 4:10 pm
