Army Recruitment
Ron Averill introduces Sergeant Jones. Sergeant Jones discussed what him and his staff gets involved in
the community. If anyone would like them to be involved in the community, let them know and they will
come out and represent the Army.
Hazard Mitigation Plan-Emil Pierson
Emil gave a brief presentation on the updated plan. He went over the contents of the plan and how it
was developed. He would like each jurisdiction adopt the plan at a City/Council Meeting. He noted this
is important to do so the insurance rating can be completed.
Surplus Equipment
The County will have surplus equipment available if anyone is interested please contact the Central
Services Director.
WSU Update
Sheila Gray gave an update on upcoming WSU events.
Misc
Morton District Court Meetings
The BOCC will be holding a meeting on January 28th at the Randle Fire Hall at 5:30 pm and in Morton at
7:30 pm at the Bob Lyle Center. Chair Schulte gave background information on Morton District Court.
The Judges have asked that the Morton Courts be closed. The Commissioners will hold a public meeting
to so citizens can give their input.
Commissioner Stamper noted that there are about 20-30 people who use the Morton District Court.
Mayor Mortenson noted that they talked to District Court and there were approximately 150 cases
heard in Morton in 2015.
Flood Damages
Jill Kangas gave an update on where entities can report flood damages. The Governor has made the
request for the November Wind Storm to the President. The December Flood Event will be made soon
to the President.
Morton Council Members
The Commissioners will be hold interviews with the applicants for the Morton City Council.
Winlock Benaroya
The Commissioners will be holding a hearing on the development agreement on Monday, January 11,
2016.
Commissioner Fund reminded the group that the Legislature is starting next week. If anyone has
concerns, she asked that they get those topics to her.
Shari gave an update on what is going on at the Federal level.
Omnibus was passed Federal RR for grade crossing improvements budget was passed.
Wildfire prevention funding was passed to help with harvesting in areas that are prone to wilfired. PILT
funding was approved. CDBG –there was a proposed change to favor the large cities. Congresswoman
Herrera-Beutler made sure this did not happen. The Path Act was passed that makes sales and local
taxes permanent for citizens. Businesses will be able to deduct the full price of equipment
Waters of the US –right now you must get a permit to take care of any water. There is an exemption for
agricultural lands. Last week Congresswoman talked to leadership and they will be taking up the permit
issue.
Matt Matayoshi gave an update on what EDC will be doing during the Legislative Session.
