BOARD OF HEALTH
BOARD MEETING MINUTES
May 9, 2022
1:30 p.m.
The Board of Health for Lewis County Washington met in regular session on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 1:32
p.m. COMMISSIONERS SEAN SWOPE, F. LEE GROSE, AND LINDSEY R. POLLOCK, DVM,
attended. CHAIR POLLOCK determined a quorum, called the meeting to order, and proceeded with the flag
salute. The ZOOM guidelines were addressed by Javier Mejia. COMMISSIONER SWOPE moved to
approve the Minutes from the special meetings March 29, 2022 and April 18, 2022, COMMISSIONER
GROSE seconded. Motion carried 3 -0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Christina Riley - Winlock: Expressed concerns regarding the Public Health officer selection and interview
process. Expressed support in favor of Dr. Wiley and Dr. Strohbach.
Code Enforcement began their presentation via PowerPoint the following was mentioned:
• Department goals, missions, and results
• Staff members and their daily duties
• Code Enforcement annual case loads
CONSENT AGENDA
There were not consent items on the agenda this meeting.
PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATE
Jami Lund provided a Public Health and Social Services (DHSS) Advisory Board update, which included
the following highlights:
• Overview of the Health Officer interviews and scoring tools
• Idea of a representative with local connections
• Idea of a representative making this role their primary community service
• Considered interpersonal skills of the candidates
The Board of Health requested to schedule interviews with the candidates as follow up.

• Introduced new Animal Shelter Manager — Joseph Henderson
• Animal Shelter unable to open to the public at this time due to low staffing, animal care is still taking
place, hopes to resume normal business hours soon.
• Provided an update on staff efforts regarding housing and future plans.
John Abplanalp provided the following highlights regarding COVUD19:
• COVID -19 case counts statewide have slowly increased, Lewis County is half the rate compared to the
rest of the state.
• Members of the public continue being tested at a steady rate. There are about 140 individuals being
tested daily
Hospitalization rates are continuing to increase and are double the state average
Group conversation continued regarding the contract at the Lewis County Mall and their testing services.
Dr. Steve Krager provided a Health Officer update, including the following highlights:
• Avian influenza information was provided and its effect on members of the public
• Avian influenza transmission and how to minimize the transmission was also discussed
• Information regarding reporting and the Public Health response to this outbreak was provided
Commissioner GROSE moved to adjourn. Commissioner SWOPE seconded, Commissioner Pollock
adjourned.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:22 p.m., on Monday,
May 9, 2022. The next public meeting will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
